More shops for Philippi Village
Mary-Anne Gontsana · GroundUp · May 2016
"Quicker and cheaper to build with than a normal concrete building, which would take about three times longer."
GroundUp's report on the Container Walk expansion names the project manager and quotes him on the choice of containers. It records 54 units completed in phase one with 73 more being added, two-storey construction with services above and retail below, IDC backing, and the traders in occupation — key cutting, clothing, fabric, building materials, insurance, a barber and a fish-and-chip shop, alongside Abalimi Bezekhaya and the BETA Foundation.
That is the whole press layer for Philippi Village as far as my own work goes, and listing it alone is deliberate. Other coverage of the precinct exists, but it reports on the venue and names other people. Citing it here would be padding.
